While delivering her ruling, the presiding judge asked Magistrate Fisher if he had anything to say before passing her verdict.

Responding, the accused apologized to the court, saying he has even served his country judiciously, noting that his family suffered a lot while the trial lasted.

JB Jenkins-Johnston who represented the former magistrate, also told the court that he has been defending people for over 36 years but felt very sad for the accused. Jenkins-Johnston went on to appeal to the court not to impose custodian sentence on his client.

After Justice Mary Sey had given her verdict, she ordered the accused to pay Le5 million on each count, adding up to Le100 million for the twenty count charge with an alternative jail term of five years. She said the fine must be paid immediately or the accused will go to jail.

JB Jenkins Johnston however appealed to the court for the accused to be given time to raise the money with the help of friends and family members, an appeal the judge turned down.
