Teachers cry for transport allowance

The issues surrounding the payment of Le40,000 allowance meant for teachers as transportation is not coming on time and they are expressing anger over the delay, Sierra Express Media reports.

Investigations reveal that from the time the APC led government came to the seat of power, they have not tried their level best to address this particular issue.

“If actually the APC administration wants to be taken seriously, it is high time they address the educational problems on time before it gets out of hand,” said Mr. Morlai Kamara, a Secondary School teacher.

A senior teacher who asked not to be named said they have exercised patience for a long time but that due to the seriousness of the situation, as transportation in the city is becoming unbearable. “It will be good for the government and for the interest of the country and children yet unborn for the government to be very proactive in dealing with problems in our educational institutions in the country.”

According to Mr. Domnic Koroma, a retired teacher, the issue of teachers is never taken seriously. The citizens of this country’s leaders are calling for quality education but those delivering this education service are less regarded; one may begin to wonder whether we actually need quality education in Sierra Leone.
