Death Threats at Lumley Road Community
As Minister, State House Staff Allegedly Intrude Private Property …
Death Threats at Lumley Road Community
Community stakeholders at Lumley Road in Freetown have vowed to join the family of late Retired Major Mohamed Macky Koroma to resist the Minister of Lands and Country Planning, Dr. Dennis Sandy and cohort, Mrs. Kai Kai, a staff at State House if they attempt to grab what they described as a private family property.
This remark was issued by sympathizers of Mr. Mark Koroma, the eldest son of the army commander after the Minister and Madam Kai Kai allegedly throng the area few days ago together with his armed military and OSD officers, purporting that the two town lots is a Government property.
The interesting part of the story according to the Mark family and good neighbors is that, on a fateful day, the State House worker, Mrs. Kai Kai approached Dr. Sandy with the statement that she is the private owner of the land in dispute, adding that she left Mark Koroma to serve as caretaker on the said land.
At this stage, the Mark family said after some months the Minister and Mrs. Kai Kai visited the area to identify the claimant property.
But guess what happened, when they arrived, Mrs. Kai Kai was asked by the Minister to identify her land, but she could not locate the area of the land she is fighting for and could not identify anybody as her caretaker as no one knows her in person.
Recently, inhabitants of the land and community stakeholders expressed anger that they were shocked and surprised to see Dr. Sandy releasing abusive languages in the middle of the street against the legal occupants of the land, whilst his armed officers allegedly threatened to shoot anyone who may question them as they have been instructed by the Minister, as well as some hooligans and untrained carpenters who were busy broken down a carpenter workshop built on the land by the Mark family and destroyed bakings.
According to investigation, after the Minister had declared the two town lots as State property, he decided to survey the land, but unfortunately for the Minister, the Mark family who are the legal owner of the land mounted stiff resistance and therefore did not allow the Minister to carry any survey activity on the land they inherited from their late father because, according to them they did not only possessed legal document to proof that the two town lots is a private land but they also believe that any state or Government land must be recorded in the state registry.
What is most painful according to the Mark Family and neighbors is that the Minister of lands is playing double standard owing to the fact that he had earlier accepted that the disputed land is a private property owned by Mrs. Kai Kai but after she had failed to tender legal and correct documents to the Minister as was done by the Mark Family, the Minister changed the story from been a private land to Government property so that he would have total take control of people’s private property which they have acquired since the early70’s.
In that regard, the affected land owners have vowed to continue resisting the Minister and Mrs. Kai Kai if they do not stop their dubious and unsuccessful deal.
According to neighbors, they decided to join the Mark Family in any bloody conflict which may arise because, their late father, Mr. Mohamed Marky Koroma did not only rise to the rank of army in Republic of Sierra Leone but had been a Chief Security Officer (CSO) at the Lungi International Airport but he also claimed the rank of Minister of Education in the Civil Service and also worked for the National Diamond Mining Company. Was such a man not fit to own property in that part of the City?, the furious sympathizers queried.
The Mark Family and neighbors are therefore calling on President Bio as the father of the nation to not only hands of the disputed property but to also caution him to stop using his public office to violate the rights of innocent citizens.
Visiting officials at the Ministry of Lands Country Planning and the Environment, Youyi Building, Brookfield to get their own version of the story, a Transport Officer attached at the Public Relations Office, Mr. Yusuf said the Principal PRO was not around adding that the issue explained before him was above the PRO.
He therefore took investigators to the Office of the Permanent Secretary but was not on his seat.
At this juncture, investigators also met with the Deputy Director of Surveys and Land, Bandasa Jusu but he could not talk to us until we write an application letter before he may create forum to discuss with the appropriate authority.
