2020 Budget will Harmonize Wages in Sierra Leone says Finance Minister
The Minister of Finance, Jacob Jusu Saffa has stated that the wages and salaries must be harmonized in the 2020 budget on the basis of fairness and equity in the use of public resources.
The Minister made the statement when he was presenting the budget at Parliament on Friday, 8th November, 2019.
Minister Saffa maintained that if we are to restore credibility to the service as a nation, we must coordinate the wage bill and spoke on the important to enhance staff moral and improve on service delivery.
He added that a commissioner, Director or Director General must have an align appropriate grading within the civil service comparable to other public sector workers.
The Minister frankly stated that the Government is losing 1-2% of our Gross Domestic Product (GDP) adding that the fiscal policy in the 2020 budget focuses on human capital development and job creation.
He said 30% would be added to the salaries of teachers, 20% to health workers and increased the minimum wage to six hundred thousand (Le 600,000) monthly.
