Sierra Leone Police Commanders undergo Stadia Courses in Manchester UK
Ahead of the Sierra Leone Premier League Season kick off, six Senior Commanders from the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) have undergone stadia management and crowd control courses at the Manchester United Training Camp, Old Trafford by the International Security Advisory Team (ISAT) with support from the British Government through DEFID .
This was made public by one Senior Police Officer from the United Kingdom Police Department, Alistair Roe during the usual SLP briefing held recently on George Street in Freetown.
In his opening remarks as Chairman of the SLP Briefing, the Director of Community Affairs, Assistant Inspector General of Police, (AIG), Edward Kalia Sesay expressed gratitude to media practitioners for supporting SLP with impressive and educative articles.
According to AIG Edward Kalia Sesay, the SLP briefing was to update the public on the current security status of the country, noting that the Management of the SLP has receive intelligence that some individuals were planning to stage an unauthorized demonstration on the 26th October 2019, but the management of the SLP was never notified.
He said the management of the SLP wants to assure everybody to go about their business as they are on top of situation as far as security preparedness is concerned and that the alleged planned protest should not distract anybody.
However, AIG Kalia Sesay also spoke on the current support the SLP has receive from ISAT with regards training on Stadia Management for crowd control in sporting activities at the Manchester United Stadium in the United Kingdom, adding that the six commanders including AIG Michael Suvula will come back home to share their knowledge which they have gain during the training session.
In his update on the Training of the 6 Commanding Officers, Alistair Roe from the United Kingdom Police Department said this is a key course that these 6 Commanders will be participating in Manchester and later bring the experience home in Sierra Leone to manage football activities at the Siaka Steven Stadium in Freetown, Makeni Stadium, Kenema and Bo complex stadium respectively.
The United Kingdom Police Officer said, ISAT expectation was that, the 6 commanders should be able to share their experiences and knowledge that they have gain so far to others ahead of the kick off of the Sierra Leone Premier League Season, noting that this impressive training course is among the technical support that ISAT had been given to the SLP in other to promote Government’s agenda in terms of professionalism.
He assures the gathering on ISAT continuous unflinching support to the SLP with regards to technical training and logistical support.
Giving the vote of thanks, the Head of Communication for the SLP, Superintendent Brima Kamara expressed appreciation to the ISAT Representative for their kindness to promote the affairs of the SLP.
He encouraged media practitioners to continue collaborating with the SLP as the management is fully aware about the significant role they are playing to portray the good image of the SLP to the rest of the world.
