As Land Battle Intensifies Traders Calls for FCC’s intervention

Many traders who have been honoring their daily market dues have come under serious confrontation allegedly perpetrated by a group calling themselves, United Youth Organization [UYO]  based at Circular and Regent Roads axis established to destabilized the normal activities of genuine traders dealing in  business in that part of the capital city, Freetown. Speaking to this medium on behalf of the recognized traders, a senior computer expert, Mr. Umar Kargbo described the fight between the organization and UYO   as senseless for the fact that, UYO allegedly trying to lease the public property belonging to the Freetown City Council [FCC] to two people according to traders including a business Tycoon, Tabarakalaha Enterprise and one Doctor White at Goderich Street, dealing in motor bikes at Circular Road in Freetown.

Traders challenged that the Relics and Monument Commission charged with the responsibility to build statue who gave a contract to the united Youth Organization in the tune of over eleven million Leones, property belonging to the Relics and Monument Commission.

The Commission has stopped the UYO with the aim to prevent fighting and the delay among traders. The Council has also terminated the UYO contract until further notice and tries to work with traders. Since UYO has been terminated year ago, the disgruntled young men are rushing to build the Bai Bureh Statue instead of allowing traders to run various businesses that would bring about benefit for the Government.

The marginalized traders are therefore calling on the prompt or immediate intervention of the Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki Sawyer to regain their business place and continue to honor any lawful dictate from FCC.

The most disappointing aspect of this episode, a member of UYO, Mohamed Fonty Mansaray aka Coachy held a mortal combat with one of the genuine traders, Umaro Kargbo who always ensure traders are abiding by the dictate of the law.

Currently, the matter has been reported to the Victoria Park Police Post, Central Division for further investigation so that the truth shall set us free. Conclusively, the traders are looking forward to FCC to grant them the opportunity of controlling the disputed land for the majority of business people to have a station to excel in their different hand to mouth businesses.

It could be recalled that sometime ago, FCC sent a doubtful invitation which fails to carry the signature of the Estate Department Officer, Mr. Aruna Sowa. The, invitation stated that the occupants should vacate the land with immediate effect and denied that he never signed and invitation his name was never mentioned or indicated in the said fabricated invitation, being that the name of the traders Chairman, Umar Kargbo was not well spelt.
