Medical Store Theft – Accused Fails Bail Condition

Magistrate Hanna Bonnie of Court No. recently granted bail to three accused persons include Felix Ibrahim Kamara, Abdul Mohamed Bai Kamara and Sullay Kamara but later taken into custody and remanded pending the next hearing for failing to meet bail condition which involve the production of tile deed.

The accused persons arraigned before Magistrate Hanna Bonnie on two counts of conspiracy, store breaking and larceny contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

The particulars of offence stated that between 5th January and 20th February, 2019 at store A of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, Ferry Junction in Freetown conspired together with other persons unknown to commit a crime to wit store breaking and larceny.

It was detailed that the accused on the same day at the same place stolen assorted drugs from the store valued at forty-eight million two hundred and fifty seven thousand eight hundred and fifty leones, property of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation.

The accused in question are employees of the Group four Security Agency.

The second prosecution witness, Daniel James who claimed to have been sleeping on one of the benches close to the store said, between first January and 20th February, this year, the third accused Sullay Kamara used to wake him up to leave that area at night with the pretext that their bosses are coming on patrol.

He further told the court that, one night after they woke him up on the same reason he became curious and decided to stand in a corner waiting to see what will happen next.

Daniel James aid from where he standing, he saw people entering the compound with an unregistered vehicle. “My Lord from where I was stand watching, I saw the accused and other unidentified persons using a leather to climb the roof of the building and removing cartoons from the store”, he told the court.

He said the following day, he explain the matter to his friend, Samba, who urged him to expose the thieves in order not to lose his sleeping place.

The second accused further explained that he met complainant, Ibrahim Sorie Turay and explained what he saw and was later invited to the Criminal Investigations Department to make a statement.

During cross examination, the witness responded that he was sleeping at the compound before the alleged incident occur and deed seen cartoon being taken away through the roof of the medical store. He confirmed that the accused and other unidentified persons had used a ladder to access the roof of the store.

The witness said, after the thieves had been exposed, the Police arrived at the scene of crime where they took photographs of the store and the area the defendants used to access the stolen drugs.

At the end of the testimony, the matter was adjourned for the next witness to testify.
