SLPP Supporters Beat Sierra Express Media Journalist in Sierra Leone

Supporters of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) have physically tortured, assaulted and helplessly beaten the one and only female reporter of Sierra Express Media, Amira Tatayea Bangura.

The ugly incident which took onlookers to great amazement took place on Thursday 2nd May, 2019 outside the precinct of Parliament during the state opening of the Second Session of the Fifth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone by His Excellency Julius Maada Bio.

When the President entered the well of Parliament, the victim of the political brutality said, the 67 Members of Parliament belonging to majority and main opposition party, All Peoples Congress (APC) walked out in protest against the SLPP bad governance system.

The APC MP’s were holding placards bearing inscriptions like, stop bastardization of our constitution, respect the peoples will and N’fa Allie must go, promote national cohesion not division among others.

According to the victim of human rights abused, a galaxy of Journalists including herself were rushing towards the APC boycotted legislators to conduct interviews on the reason of their boycott from the well of Parliament.

On her way, SEM hournalist Amira T. Bangura said, they spotted some SLPP supporters in their green T-Shirts vandalizing a private vehicle belonging to one of the youngest APC MPs’, Honorable Osman Timbo of Constituency 130, Murray Town, Freetown. According to reports, Lawyer Timbo was also given a nasty slap on his face as well as the APC female MP for Constituency 113, Western Urban, Rugiatu Rosy Kanu.

“While I was taking pictorial evidence, SLPP supporters rushed at me saying that the Journalists must not take any snap shots, adding that one of the bodyguards to President Bio threatened to delete all photos and video records or else her cell phone would be destroyed.”, said Amira.

At this stage the Local Unit Commander (LUC) attached at Parliament, Superintendent Paul Banister was able to remove her from the bloody crowd and saved her life through his swift intervention.

By then, the victim said, the security to President Bio had already deleted all her photos and video records, an action that frustrated even people who were watching the unfortunate dramatic incident.
