Sierra Leone MP’s Disapprove SLPP’s Commissioner South

The 68 Members of main opposition and majority party in the Sierra Leone House of Parliament, All Peoples Congress (APC) has on Tuesday, 26th, March, 2019 boycotted the approval of one of the Presidential nominees, Edmond Sylvester Alpha for linking with NEC but to the public amazement, he was forcefully approved to serve as Commissioner for the National Electoral Commissioner (NEC) in the Southern Region without the contribution of the APC and National Grand Coalition (NGC) party.

Making statement at the Fifth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone, First Session, fourth meeting of Parliament, Honourable Lahai Marrah representing Constituency 042, Falaba District who is also the Deputy Chairman for the Public Account Committee in Parliament said they as majority party in Parliament are not against any nominees, he congratulated and demonstrated confidence to all other nominees except the South Commissioner nominees, Edmond Sylvester Alpha.

He explained that as party, they have an issue against NEC relating to the way and manner they are handling election process especially the recent bye-election at Tonko Limba which he described as full of discrepancies and fraud. He therefore on behalf of the party called for the immediate resignation of the Chief Electoral Commissioner, N’fa Alie Conteh because, according to him, as an institution, its lacks the integrity and credibility to handle future elections of this country.

He pronounced that as majority Members of Parliament and main opposition party, they would not take part with regards to any approval related to NEC official. ‘’We are now asking all APC MP’s to walk out of Parliament’’, they walk out singing the APV victory song.

In his statement, former flagbearer for National Grand Coalition (NGC), Dr. Alhaji Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella who is now the Member of Parliament for Constituency 062, Kambia District said as a party have clearly stated their serious concerns in the last press release about the Tonko Limba bye-election result.

He described the entire process of the Tonko Limba Bye-election as full of fraud and advised that if such malpractices continue, our democracy would be endangered and brilliantly pronounced that NGC would not be part of proceedings that full of fraudulent plans and activities.
