As Importers Association Battle Intensifies Wurrie Sow Declares Self President

Alhaji Wurrie Sow has declared himself interim President for the Sierra Leone Importers Association (SLIA) but Alhaji Alpha Tanu Jalloh (in photo) confirmed that he is still the President of the noble association because he said; nobody has ever contested against him since he became President in 2004.

In a press release dated 19th March, 2019, signed by the Interim President, Alhaji Wurrie Sow and his Secretary General titled “Alhaji Alpha Tanue Jalloh no longer a president of the Sierra Leone Importers Association” reads that the interim Administration of the Sierra Leone Importers Association wishes to inform the general public that Mr. Alpha Tanue Jalloh former President of the Sierra Leone Association is no longer the President of the Association.

It continues that Alhaji Wurrie Sow and Ibrahim Jalloh can be contacted for all related matters concerning the Sierra Leone Importers Association until another executive is set up and announced. All correspondents can now be addressed to either Alhaji Wurrie Sow or Ibrahim Jalloh at 2nd floor, 24, Lumley Street, Freetown.

The release further stated that Mr. Alpha Tanue Jalloh is not authorized to represent the association in any matter whatsoever adding that any person or organization dealing with him on behalf of the Sierra Leone Importers Association shall be doing so at his or her own liability.

Speaking to Alhaji Alpha Tanue Jalloh in Freetown who is also a Council member for the Sierra Leone Chambers of Commerce Industry and Agriculture and Chairman, Amalgamated Trade Sector Advocacy argued that he is still the recognize President of the association until an election is hold.

He described Mr. Wurrie Sow as not only a self-declared President but nobody recognize him and above all he said, most of them who are now fighting to remove him undemocratically have no prove or identity that they are members of the association.

According to Mr. Tanue Jalloh, the SLIA constitution provides that, only a native born of Sierra Leone qualified to be President of the Sierra Leone Importers Association adding that he is ready to respond to any wise decision may be taken by majority members of the association in future.

Tanue Jalloh highlighted that, the association was not only formed to minimize the too many deaths that were occurring in the sea when traders were travelling by boat from Freetown to Conakry for the purpose of buying and selling but also to ensure that imported food commodity always available for consumption.

He explained that he was at Dubai attending a trade fair when news broken out about flour shortage in Freetown and assured that the issue of bread shortage is now a thing of the past.

Mr. Tanue made it very clearly that they are serving the interest of the people and not political party for the fact that he said, the association runs on merit not by partisan basis.

He said, he took over the Presidency of the association from the second President, Mr. Sahid in 2004 and recalled that the then Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Kadie Sesay under the SLPP era guided him to establish the Tanue International al in China to divert Sierra Leoneans attention from purchasing business in Guinea and Liberia, hence they are now going directly to either Dubai or Chine to buy do business.
