Pittance for some and massive emoluments for Bio cronies in Sierra Leone

As doctors, nurses, teachers and other workers in Sierra Leone continue to receive pittances as salaries with almost no other benefits attached; a situation that has warranted countless numbers of strike actions throughout the last eleven months of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) Government, the Bio Family and cronies are pocketing colossal sums including 50 million, 40 million, 17 million, 15 million Leones etc. as stipends and salaries with many other benefits attached.

While the bulk of Sierra Leoneans continue to wallow in extreme hardship as a result of the massive skyrockets, on a daily basis, prices of basic food stuff and other commodities, the hyperinflation of the dollar as against the Leones and heavy taxation amongst others, it was revealed to the dismay of many, in  bank statements tendered as evidence at the ongoing Commissions of Inquiry that members of the Bio family in less than twelve months in office,  have been collecting monies to the tunes of seventeen million, eight million and five million Leones respectively, as just stipends from government funds meant for the Youth in Farming Project initiated by the former All Peoples Congress (APC) Government . The bank statements tendered revealed that Frank Bio, Amadu Bio and Charles Bio according to recent withdrawals, have been paid millions of Leones as just stipends from the account of the Youth in Farming Project.

As if that is not enough, a document emanating from State House signed by B.M Foh for the Secretary to President, has also revealed another financial wastefulness of the President Bio’s Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) Government as officials appointed to represent the government at the ongoing Commissions of Inquiry have being approved to paid fifty (50), forty (40), and fifteen (15) million Leones as salaries per month.

These colossal sums given to Bios cronies have left many Sierra Leoneans wondering whether President Bio and his New Direction Government really care about the welfare of the citizens who find it extremely difficult on a daily basis, to put food on their tables or whether the New Direction is only meant for a particular set of people while the majority of the masses are left in continuous penury?
