Sierra Leone Commercial Bank to Face Legal Action

A good number of individuals whose names were openly read on Wednesday 13th February, 2019 at the Justice Biobele’s Commission of Inquiry by one of the directors of the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank, Mr. Moses, as persons who took loans from the Bank and refused to pay, have threatened legal actions against the bank over what they described as defamation and breach of the banking laws of Sierra Leone.

Some of the persons including the former Deputy Minister of Information and Communications, Mr. Theo Nicol, former Energy Minister, Ambassador Henry Macauly, and former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Franklyn Bai Kargbo, among others, in various press releases, have vehemently denied taking loans from the said bank and therefore see the action of the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank as an act of defamation to their persons for which they have threatened to institute legal actions.

Many other persons whose names were also included among the list of bad debtors have described the action of the bank as not a calculated ploy to rub mud on their images but also a complete breach of the confidentiality code of conduct binding customers and the bank.

Many Sierra Leoneans and foreign nationals believe that the action of the bank is not only unfortunate but also has now resulted in them losing every confidence in SLCB for the fear of not keeping banking ethics.
