Prisoners “Earning Scheme” Credits Le337m Into 250 Prisoners Accounts

Sierra Express Media (SEM) was intimated that the sum of Le 337M has been credited into 250 prisoners accounts at Rokel Commercial Bank as part of their “Earning Scheme” for work they have done for over 9 months in the areas of catering, cleaning, serving as library assistants and in the correctional service farms. This, they say is a very good start for prisoners after they have completed their designated period in the prison.

On the contrary, when the views of some Sierra Leoneans were sounded by SEM, the uniformed concern raised is the simple reality as to whether they will have access to those huge finances that have been published in their names or that they are just following due processes for the attention of citizens and the international community, after they have completed their assigned phases in their various prisons.

In another media encounter by SEM, quite a good number of commoners expressed their dissatisfaction as to the ill way prisoners are treated in Sierra Leone, especially when they are not connected to the powers that be. However, they are appealing to the government to closely monitor those processes in other to ensure fairness and empathy, because working as a caterer, cleaner, and/or library assistant and in the correctional service farms are very tedious, especially when working under duress.
