Urgent Medical Attention Is Needed

Fanta Jawara, a 13 year old girl, a JSS 3 pupil of the David Bayanor Secondary School at Sayinoh, Calaba Town in Freetown and currently admitted at the Connaught Teaching Hospital in Ward 7 in Freetown, desperately needs urgent medical attention as she is suffering from an acute kidney problem.  (Photo: Kidney Patient, Fanta Jawara)

She has been living in Calaba Town with her parents, Gibrilla Jawara and Sia James, but unfortunately lost her father during the height of the Ebola virus, that struck in our country 2014, and has since been taken care of by her mother. Her mother Sia (a farmer), disclosed that Fanta has been with this illness for the past 7 months and after trying all help she could muster from one hospital to the other to no avail, she is only hoping for help to save her daughter’s life. She praised Dr. Soccoh Kabia who is charge of the Dialysis Unit at the Connaught Teaching Hospital for being able to diagnose the illness, but lamented that her daughter’s sickness cannot be treated in the country as they lack the necessary facilities to treat her.

The innocent girl has been assisted by one Mr. Abubakarr Kamara who was paying her medical bills, but he could not afford to pay the huge medical charges involve to take the awaiting Basic Examination Certificate Council (BECE) pupil out of the country for further medical treatment, which is not available in Sierra Leone and save her life. The family and relatives of the sick girl are poor and cannot afford to foot the bill of travelling out of the country or pay for her treatment.

They are therefore calling on the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS), Non-governmental organizations and philanthropists to come to the rescue of this innocent child whose stomach, body and face is getting swollen by the day.

In an interview with Dr. Soccoh Kabia who is presently administering treatment to the girl at Connaught Hospital, he said that the young girl is severely sick and they are doing their best to stabilize her, adding that the Kidney problem is as a result of inflammation of Gilomerulonephritis.
