The Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development in consonant with the Personal Assistant to the Minister of Local Government, Lawyer Brewa under the current administration of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) have connived to humiliate the Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki Sawyer during the last Saturday cleaning.

The Deputy Local Government Minister accused Mayor Aki Sawyer of not only being in charge of the cleaning but was also sabotaging the cleaning process.

In her response, Mayor Aki Sawyer stated that the Deputy Minister was arrogant to her because she is working in line with accountability to achieve the president’s agenda and not to sabotage the cleaning process as claimed by the SLPP fanatic minister.

The bone of contention in the matter according to investigation was that, the Mayor was insisting to see the 40 vehicles which were claimed to have been hired for the cleaning exercise by the Deputy Minister and compatriots before approval.

Because of her resistance or refusal to pay blindly, she was castigated by the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development and the Personal Assistant to the Minister who insolently replied that, “Who is the Mayor to check our affairs”. The erudite Mayor replied that she is in charge of affairs and not sabotaging the cleaning process but fully support the President’s agenda.

Many onlookers were shocked and surprised to see a Government Minister and Minister’s representative to publicly humiliating the eloquent City Mayor of Freetown and they therefore are calling on the Bio’s led Government to beware and warned actors of his Government to respect the sitting Mayor of Freetown for the fact that she was not appointed by either the President or any other Government authority but voted for by the general public because they believed in her dream to strengthen transparency and accountability in public service.
