In His Desperation To Muscle The Union Labour Minister Castigates Bike Riders Union

According to a letter from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, dated 2nd October, 2018 to the Sierra Leone Commercial Motor Bike Riders Union (SLCOMBRU), the Deputy Minister, Mr. Lansana Mohamed Dumbuya has vindictively instructed the Union to maintain the controversial outcome of the conduct of the Regional Elections conducted under the leadership of SLCOMBRU in the Northern and Southern regions. The Image Maker of the aforementioned Union steadfastly responded by stressing on the fact that they will not adhere to any mandate leading to the dissolution of a legally minded Union, whose membership is well over 400,000 registered Bike Riders across the country, and who are at the same time contributing to the Consolidated Revenue Fund.

The National Public Relations Officer (N.P.R.O), Alusine of that youth oriented union, in an interview accepted the fact that their tenure in office has elapsed but the Deputy Minister’s ultimatum of fifteen (15) days to elect the National Executive of the Bike Riders Union is unconstitutional and unacceptable. He further stated that it is a gross violation of the constitution of Sierra Leone, adding that he is kindly drawing the attention of His Excellency, the president on the deliberate misuse of power by some of his ministers including the one under review. The Acting President of the Union categorically conditioned that the decision coming from that Ministry is politically motivated, due to the fact that the aggrieved members are the South Easterners who are actively supporting the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP). “Nobody will impose on us as a formidable union. We are amaze to see the Deputy Minister of Labour writing his name right at the top of the coat of arm. We are determined to resist political interference of SLPP functionaries into the administration of our Union, though we are ready for fair and peaceful resolutions geared towards national development. I am using this opportunity to express my solidarity to our general membership and kindly asking you to stay calm as this issue would be amicably handled. We shall not allow any politician to wrongfully influence the process, as we are always ready to deliver in the best interest of all of us. I am quite optimistic of the simple reality that our aggrieved colleagues are promoting the political gains of the SLPP government, rather than that of the Union of which they belong”. Averred the P.R.O.

As it was clearly stated in their letter, the Sierra Leone Labour Congress is supposedly in a meeting slated for Friday, 5th October, 2018 at the Bike Rider’s office discussing the unreasonable instruction given by the Ministry of Labour.
