Africell Boosts the Entertainment Industry

Linda Samai, commonly known as ‘Star Zee’, a female super star in the music industry, on Wednesday 19th September 2018, at a press conference held at Africell’s Headquarters at 1 Pivot Street, Wilberforce, officially signed an agreement with Sierra Leone’s leading mobile operator Africell, effectively becoming its latest Brand Ambassador in the country.

Speaking during the ceremony, which was broadcast live, Abdul Aziz Kamara who moderated the live program, informed the audience and listeners that relationship between Star Zee and Africell dates far back as 2014 when she was sponsored by the company as she launched her first album ‘Lie Lie’ at the Young Sportsmen’s Club (YSC) along Wilkinson Road in Freetown. She has from that point graduated to becoming the country’s biggest female super star and is now the latest Brand Ambassador of Africell.

Chief Corporate Officer of Africell, Joe Abass Bangura, welcomed the press and those on radio land to the important signing event. He re-echoed the words of Abdul Aziz Kamara that relationship between Africell and Star Zee go way back to 2014, making reference to the YSC show. He further maintained that Africell occupies an enviable and an undeniable leadership position in the communication industry and cares about what every Sierra Leonean cares for and this has been the driving force behind its signing of many of the country’s artists in the entertainment industry.

It has feelings for the ordinary man and is determined to make the difference. To do this, they have over the years, participated in various promotions and partnerships with Sierra Leoneans to put smile on the faces of the masses.

The engagement with artist in the entertainment industry is a move designed to promote young talents. Artists come with what they can offer and are then helped to develop their career and an enhanced future.

Joe Abass Bangura recalled the humble beginnings of the super star, which he said started at Lumley. He explained that Linda Samai was born in Wilberforce and lived with her father, who was the lead vocalist in the Military band. This recollection jogged the memory of Star Zee, who admitted that she fell in love with music from those early stages in life and developed a passion for music.

She further maintained that whilst studying at the Milton Margai College to become an Air Hostess, her alternate passion, she could not help the continued growth of the passion for Music and later entered the industry.

Star Zee went on to explain that her breakthrough came with the song “Show me your lighter” in 2017. She also disclosed that during several tours in Australia, she had the opportunity to share the stage with one of the world’s super star in the entertainment industry, Pato Ranking and later did a song with another star, ‘Stone Boy’. Recalling how she got involved with Stone Boy, she said it was a surprise, as her music, which was listened to by the super star, caught his attention and he asked her to join him in a show.

On what attracted her to join Africell as its Brand Ambassador, she said that the company is a leader and has contributed immensely to the development of the country. Africell, she added, has been involved in every sector in the country, giving support to even the ordinary man. The villagers in the most remote village, though far away from the company, feel belong. This feeling of belonging resonates with her and all other artists in the country.

Africell has contributed to Education, Entertainment Sports etc. and this has catapulted it to the top of the ladder in the industry and embracing artists as ambassadors, is a step in the right direction and a welcome development. She called on all her fans to come on board the Africell train as she is on board.

She expressed appreciation to God for the opportunity and Africell for the trust and belief they have in her to appoint her as their Brand Ambassador. She promised to do all she can to spread the name and good work of the company everywhere she goes.

“I give thanks to God Almighty through Africell Sierra Leone for building the trust and belief in me to serve as a Brand Ambassador…”

The press conference was climaxed by the signing of the agreement between Africell and the female super star, ‘Star Zee’ as the company’s latest Brand Ambassador. The agreement was signed between Linda Samai aka ‘Star Zee’ and Joe Abass Bangura, Chief Corporate Relation Officer of Africell, amidst cheers.
