Food Commodity Prices Skyrocket as Sierra Leone turns into living hell

Sierra Leoneans are worrying for the fact that the country was ranked third hungriest nation in West Africa in 2017 under former President Koroma’s administration when a bag of rice was sold at Le220,000, now the price of rice which is our staple food has increased inconsiderably under the current Government of President Bio to Le275,000.

When they were campaigning for the Presidency, President Bio and his supporters were telling citizens to vote against the then ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) to end the acute hunger that was tormenting the people. What are they going to say now when prices of rice and other basic food commodities has doubled up?.

In fact, that was the reason many are speculating that, Sierra Leone may be rank again from third hungriest to hungriest nation in the world.

When President Bio of “Paopa Salone for Betteh” took over from Tolongbo, one hundred dollars was sold Le750,000, now that the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MOFED) is headed by an expert in Economic, Joseph Jusu Saffa, the price of dollars has escalated to Le825,000 in less than 100 days in power.

What is most disheartening among Sierra Leoneans is that even prices of other food condiments including pepper has hiking from Le1,000 to Le8,000 per cup, palm oil has increased from Le120,000 to Le210,000, Garri which was sold L300 a cup has doubled Le2,000 for three cups.

Many people were jubilating when the Sierra Leone Peoples Party took the mantle of leadership from the APC because they were thinking that their decade suffering would have come to an end but to the dismay of everybody, prices of all food and other basic amenities have climbed up.

Less than a week after winning the Presidential election, SLPP hierarchies and commoners were telling rice importers to sell all their rice in store because the Government will soon bring in ships of rice to be sold in reduce price but the suffering citizens are now asking if the SLPP Government is rendering a lip service to score political goal.

Moreover, many who danced and voted for SLPP President Bio has started expressing regret that if they had known, they would have voted in the APC for continuity because according to them the APC party has laid the foundation to take the country to prosperity unlike the current supervision which is still struggling to make things happen.
