ACC Files Sealed Indictment Over 2017 Hajj Programme

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed sealed indictments for corruption offences committed in the 2017 Hajj scholarship scheme.

It will be recalled that the ACC launched an investigation in August 2017 relating to the abuse of the scheme for the Muslim pilgrimage to the Holy Land of Mecca.

The public will be informed on the details of the indictments in due course.

Meanwhile, the ACC has also indicted Alhaji Mohamed Bundu Mansaray, Chairman of the Mines Advisory Board, on one count of accepting an advantage contrary to section 28 (a) of the Anti-Corruption Act 2008.

In a similar matter, the Commission has indicted Mathew Hird and Waine Venter, Chief Finance Officer and Chief Operations Officer respectively of Sierra Rutile Mining Limited, on one count of conspiracy to commit a corruption offence contrary to section 128 (1) of the Anti-Corruption Act 2008.

This relates to the bribery of officials of the Mines Advisory Board by the Management of Sierra Rutile Mining Limited for the renewal of exploration licenses between July and August, 2016.

The ACC also wishes to inform the public that Mohamed Artican Sandi Koroma, former Acting Chief Administrator of the Freetown City Council and of 137 Bai Bureh Road, Kissy, has been indicted on three counts of abuse of office contrary to section 42 (1) of the Anti-Corruption Act 2008.

Koroma, in 2017, abused his office when he presented family members as staff of the Freetown City Council to enable them secure service passports from the Immigration Department.

The ACC reaffirms its commitment to the fight against corruption in Sierra Leone.
