As APC MPs Abscond Parliament Sierra Leone Goes Into Oblivion

One of the most peaceful countries in West Africa as ranked recently by the Global Peace Index has gone into oblivion as a result of the ill-motivated attitude of the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) to have the Speaker of Parliament by hook or crook which has left majority of citizens in doubt and unconsciousness.

It is disheartening to note that the ruling SLPP which is the minority in Parliament is fighting the main opposition, All Peoples Congress (APC) majority to win the Speaker in the House of Parliament at all cost as the Paopa implies.

The petitioned Members of Parliament of the APC including the former Minister of Information and Communication, Mohamed Bangura and the erudite Member of Parliament, Lawyer Osman Timbo who are among the petitioned MP’s were mercilessly beaten in the full view of the APC die hard supporters.

Such a negative development has left majority of the APC supporters across the country in dilemma especially the areas believed to be the APC strongholds including the Western Rural and Urban, Port Loko, Bombali, Tonkolili, Karene, Kambia, Falaba and beyond.

Although the election of the Speaker of the House of Parliament was not put on hold because the current administration of President Brigadier Julius Maada Bio is using the power of incumbency to destabilize members of the main opposition.

The saddest part in the whole episode is that, the absconded APC MPs did not put any resistance against the decision of the Bio’s Parliament but they walked out peacefully to their party’s headquarters office to deliberate on the way forward.

But the public is worried over the undemocratic state of the country for the fact that it is the first time in the history of our national politics for such a terrible development to take place in Sierra Leone.

Although supporters of the ruling party are not only jubilating but are also arguing that the action of the judiciary and the Parliament is in accordance with the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone.

But remember that what is good for the goose is also good for the gander. Lonta!.
