Toll Road Reduces Accidents

Freetown/Waterloo highway was identified as a death trap but with the development of the Toll Road system, road accidents along Waterloo highway have reduced drastically due to the expansion of the road in to four lane dual carriage way.

Although Government critics are saying, Sierra Leone does not need Toll Road despite the huge benefit the country stands to gain. And despite the percentage the Government is deriving, Toll Road has also provided job opportunity for many Sierra Leoneans.

It is disheartening to hear public officials condemning the Toll Road initiative with all the beautification it created along the highway. The Chinese people are using their own money to construct the road and collected Toll fees in return.

The good side of the Toll Road is that, only the driver of a vehicle can pay toll fees not individual passenger and the transportation from Freetown to Waterloo and elsewhere remains the same. So why Sierra Leoneans are condemning such development?

Although many patriotic citizens are extoling the Government of the outgone President Ernest Bai Koroma for such initiative because it expedites economic growth and enhance safety of travellers, it also suffice to that the toll road connects feeder roads to rural communities to allow farmers easily convey their local food commodities to urban centers for sale.
