NEC promises Credible and transparent elections
The National Electoral Commission (NEC), Director of training and election Education, Mr. Edmond Sylvester Alpha, told pressmen at the weekly government press briefing that the commission have adequate training materials and have also developed a guide for person with disability especially visually impaired to vote for themselves without the help of others in the upcoming elections for the first time in Sierra Leone.
He added that the commission has started transporting what he referred to as sensitive and non-sensitive election materials across the country.
The Director pointed out that NCE has received all the monies needed for the smooth running of the elections with four (4) town criers nationwide to educate voters on how to mark their ballot papers to minimize void vote and the election process.
Mr Edmond Sylvester Alpha made this disclosure at the ministry of Information and communication conference room 8th Floor Youyi Building in Freetown on Thursday 22nd February, 2018.
He furthered that three thousand three hundred (3,300) polling centres had being established across the country with each center hosting stations for presidential, parliamentary, Mayor/district Chairperson and councilor.
Mr Edmonds Alpha disclosed that the commission will conduct paramount chief members of parliament elections on the 27th February 2018 in the following election districts of Kenema, Kailahun, Bo, Bonthe, Moyamba, Pujehun, Koinadugu Porto Loko, Kambia, Falaba, Karene, Bombali, and Tonkolili respectively.
Speaking on the commission preparedness to conduct the 2018 multitier elections, Mr Alpha said they have all the structures in place with well trained and equipped electoral districts and with the support from (UNDP) they have additional officers in each district to address the issue of person with disabilities
