Board of Imams meet with the United Council of Imams

Receiving the delegation from Freetown at the Central Mosques in Lunsar, the National Coordinator, Board of Imams, Sheik Hassan Akindawoh, expressed satisfaction and congratulated the new National President of the United Council of Imams Dr. Mohamed Abib Sheriff for his dynamic leadership that the Board of Imams in Lunsar have undertaken in Lunsar in a very short time which he described as a welcome novelty. He disclosed that they are working tirelessly to capacitate young Muslim scholars to become Sheiks and Imams at elementary level.

The Chairman of the programme who doubles as Chairman of the Board of Imams in Marampa Chiefdom, Sheik Salim Swarray, noted that the visit of the National President of the United Council of Imams is both a historic and epic making event for the Marampa Chiefdom.

He expressed gratitude and humility to the visitors for honouring their invitation at a short notice. He also presented his two years legacy in governance as Chairman of the Board, which he said has undertaken projects that are visible for anyone to see.

He revealed that he was proud to report their completion of the building of the Central Mosque and that they are presently constructing two other Mosques which will soon be completed.

He also disclosed that they have dug over fifteen water-wells, providing food and clothes for Imams and seeking other assistance to for vulnerable peoples in their communities.  He assured the audience and the of their unwavering commitment and cooperation with the United Council of Imams.

Delivering his sermon at the Central Mosque in Lunsar during the Friday Juma prayers, Alhaji Dr. Mohamed Abib Sheriff, called on Muslim worshippers to be steadfast and hold on to the religion firmly as it is the true religion of Allah. He noted that Muslims all over the world are brothers and sisters under the umbrella of Islam. He advised that they must live in peace, love and togetherness in the Chiefdom.

He commended the Board of Imams of Marampa Chiefdom for their good job and the respect accorded to him and his entourage. He maintained that the United Council of Imams belongs to Imams in Sierra Leone and is geared towards addressing their needs and problems to protect the principles of Islam.

He informed the gathering that the familiarization tour aims at bringing the Muslim community together to articulate their views and speak with one voice after the death of their past President, Alhaji Yayah Deen Kamara. He disclosed that all past Presidents of the United Council of Imams have visited the Marampa Chiefdom and he is no exception, meaning the chiefdom plays a pivotal role in promoting Islam.

Regional, Chiefdom, Section, and District Imams were all in attendance to grace the auspicious occasion.
