SLPP’s Unruly Behavior, Oversteps Bounds
Sierra Express Media, the defender of democracy is saddened by the alleged acts of intolerance and violence orchestrated on Monday, 6th November by some members of the main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) including their Publicity Secretary, Lahai Lawrence Leema, who was alleged to have attacked the country’s National Broadcaster, Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) for failing to host him in their studios after the former SLPP flag bearer aspirant, Franklyn Rogers, who is now a member of the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) Party had levied allegations that his mother’s house at Tihun Village was under attack by alleged supporters of Maada Bio, who were directly working under the instructions of the retired junta.
Receiving such allegations, the presenter of the program decided to contact on the phone the Publicity Secretary of SLPP, Lahai Lawrence Leema for a response to such allegations. Viewers and listeners of the program accounts revealed that Leema was very arrogant on the phone that the presenter had to cut him off the phone hoping that he could have comported himself when he was called back but again displayed the same manner of ignorance with threats of war and violence should his party deprived of winning the forthcoming elections. It was at this juncture, audience further accounts, that the presenters decided to finally drop him off the phone which prompted him to force his way to the studios where he bulldozed all security measures of the Corporation and demanded that he should be hosted at all cost. This act by Leema prompted the management of SLBC to issue a press release in condemnation of his behavior.
As if that was not enough, it is also alleged that the same Leema mobilized a group of disgruntled SLPP thugs to destroy banners of Dr. Samura Kamara, the ruling All Peoples Congress presidential candidate on Sweizzy; an action that caused chaos within the areas of Sweizzy, Wallace Johnson Street and their environs.
These acts , according to political analysts and concerned citizens is a recipe for conflict especially when elections are just at the corner and it is therefore prudent on concerned authorities to put stern measures in place to forestall such occurrences.
As at press time, efforts to reach the Sierra Leone People’s Party Publicity man has not yielded any dividend but this medium is always open for the SLPP’s own side of the story.
