NAYCOM Boosts MOYA
It has been a disaster in Sierra Leone for job seeking especially with young people who have spent years in primary, secondary and Tertiary institutions with millions of Leones spent on them with great expectation from their parents that after been educated, they will be in position to take care of themselves and the rest of their families, but their expectation turns wrong as the graduated and end up with no job and become a burden to their various homes.
In other to tackle this jobless situation in the country, one of the West African leaders, His Excellency Dr Ernest Bai Koroma, who came to power in 2007 made a promise to the nation that he will lay his life for the youths. In actualizing this statement, a Youth Minister in the person of Bai Mahmud as the political representative in any national decision or policy setting for the youths.
In a bid to tackle the jobless situation of the youths, the youth ministry under the leadership of Honorable Bai Mahmud in collaboration with the National Youth Commission headed by Anthony Koroma has held a two day orientation on graduate internship; this orientation was held at the national stadium hostel in Freetown. This two day graduate orientation attracted a huge number of graduates from different colleges around the country.
Speaking at the ceremony the National youth commissioner Anthony Koroma noted that the issue of youth employment is a problem as 800,000 graduated annually, so as they are there as commission to bridge the gap youth unemployment, we want to see the youth in a responsible manner being the youth of today not future youth.
Our partners especially UNDP who is giving us their support to enhance better work for our youth employment. During the session there were a lot of other speakers on the way forward for youth’s affairs in Sierra Leone. The deputy National youth commissioner Madam Aminata Sillah heighted, key point that graduate should be well behaved in their job experience they should be train on soft and light skills get intern responsibilities.
