Kroo Bay Youths take Ernest to task!

Youth Chairman of Freetown’s biggest slum – Kroo Bay Sorie Sankoh in has expressed concern over the abandoned state the community is living in; children and youths in particularly and noted that despite the ardent fight of youths of the community to ensure that Ernest Bai Koroma came to power in 2007, “our efforts do not seem to mean anything to him (Ernest Koroma) as we still live and grope in our plights.”

In an exclusive interview, with Sierra Express Media on Tuesday 11th May 2010; Chairman Sankoh disclosed that the people of Kroobay are going through a lot of inhuman ordeals as the community is going without pure drinking water, no health centre, no toilet facility and poor educational system for children of the community. “We voted for Ernest Bai Koroma so that we can experience changes in our situation but far from it, we do not seem to see that anyone even cares about our very existence” a 45 year old mother told Sierra Express Media.

Chairman Sankoh earlier quoted also expressed their dismay on the fact that they pay their taxes to the Freetown Council and yet do not see how those taxes help them live a better life. He further said, “as a community we have only one training centre to help develop the vocations of youths living in the slum who need different areas skills training like carpentry, mason, tailoring that are not provided by the only existing one there.

“We have more than twenty thousand people resident at Kroo Bay little facilities made available are very much inadequate and could not in any way cater for our need” Mohamed Bangura a 60 year  old  that was born and     bred at the slum fumed into the Sierra Express mini recorder.

Apart from the fact that the President seems to have a abandoned us in the hands of our very peril, the virtual disappointment to us is that our ward councilor suppose to be championing our course seems less and less interested in our plight; making the prospect of our very continued survival very bleak” Chairman Sankoh impressed. What we now look forward to is the time any God-forsaken politician will come canvass us for our votes in the name of providing dumb solutions to our problems; then we will show them the result of their neglect for the past five years” the   Chairman concluded.
