More Funding for Sierra Leone Armed Force and Police Citizens Demand

Recognizing the hectic task our security forces including the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed forces (RSLAF) and Sierra Leone Police (SLP) are performing, citizens have requested that our security wing needed additional funding to enhance quality security services so that peace, unity, justice and freedom would prevail nationwide.

It is against that backdrop that the Budget Advocacy Network (BAN) in collaboration with, Civil Society Organizations who are also known as Non State Actors (NSA), District Budget Oversight Committees (DBOC’s) and other concerned citizens are calling on Government through the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MOFED) to approve supplementary funding for the two forces who have successfully presented their budget proposals at the just concluded 2018 bilateral budget discussions at the Miatta Conference Center, Brookfields in Freetown.

According to citizens, they will like to hear timely allocation of subvention especially when elections are fast approaching adding that the security forces of the state need Government support to equip them with sophisticated equipment so that they can be smarter in air, sea and land battles.

They described the work of RSLAF and SLP as very significant to the country’s security sector.  “Government should reserve enough resources for the protection of internal territory and safeguarding of our borders against Child trafficking, illegal fishing, drugs, money laundry and Terrorism among others with robust patrol.

They emphasized on the huge revenue generated by forces in our neighboring countries out of good initiative which our forces do fail to implement due to lack of adequate funding.

Citizens therefore are appealing to MOFED for the endorsement of the requested additional budget allocation because they said; security issue is very expensive everywhere in the world.

Participants therefore  recommended to MOFED that, the two institutions to  always partner with the Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Food Security (MAFFS) and other line ministries to support farming activities which is key to promote food self-sufficiency.
