Kroobay, Peninsular, others endorse Afsatu Kabba for APC Running-Mate
Women in Kroobay have joined other women in the peninsular and some parts of the country to endorse the High Commissioner to Nigeria, Haja Afsatu Kabba as the fittest candidate for the Running-Mate position in the ruling All People’s Congress(APC) party which is planning to hold its convention in September.
A resident of Tombo, Ya Alimamy Kamara said the Diplomat, whilst serving the country as Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, helped a lot of local fishermen including her husband and brothers with fishing equipment.
According to Salieu Sesay, a resident of the Kroobay community in Freetown, said as Minister of Energy, Haja Afsatu Kabba transformed the energy sector and provided electricity for thousands of Sierra Leoneans within one hundred days in order to live up to the party’s campaign promise to the people of Sierra Leone. He added that she is well abreast with government duties with her national and international political experience she has acquired over the years. He further called on President Koroma to support Kabba for the running-mate of the party in order for the APC to emerge victorious in the forth-coming Presidential election.
The endorsement meeting which took place at the Kroobay Community Centre was graced by a crowd of about five hundred APC supporters including members of the Islamic Forum.
Founder of the Islamic Forum, Sheikh Sorie Ibrahim Kabia thanked the women for choosing a member of the forum to run for the second highest office in the government of Sierra Leone. He noted that this is Haja Afsatu Kabba’s turn to acquire that position for the fact that she was turned down in the 2007 election when she wanted to go for the party’s Running-Mate. He said if the APC wants to continue in power, Afsatu has to be chosen. ‘’Afsatu needs to be rewarded for all that she did for Ernest Koroma to gain power in the 2007 election’’ he maintained.
Sources however revealed that Haja Afsatu Kabba will return shortly from Nigeria to intensify her campaign for the second highest office in the country. She was removed from office as Minister of Marine Resources, went on trial, found guilty but she won the ACC Corruption case in the Court of Appeal.
In September, the ruling party will go to convention to elect of select those that will run the affairs of the party for the next term.
