IAEA Assures NSRPA

The Manager, Nuclear Safety Source Research and Radioactive Waste Management, Abdulai Abass Kargbo (in photo) has stated that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is always ready and willing to give their unflinching support to the Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Authority (NSRPA) for the development of radiation activities.

Kargbo made the assertion last Friday while making a power point presentation at the 2018 Fiscal Year bilateral Budget discussions at the Miatta Conference Centre, Brookfields in Freetown.

Kargbo further explained that the objective of NSRPA is to meet international best practice adding that they have been doing marvelous job in training many radiographers with other technicians to promote risk of contracting vibration by radioactive apparatus.

He said they have to protect people, properties and the entire environment against exposure to radiation that may lead to Cancer and other related diseases across the country. He added that the aim of the Authority is to establish the highest standard of protection of people, the environment and property through the requirements of IAEA and other development partners.

The session attracted members of the Civil Society Organizations (CSO’s), District Budget Oversight Committees (DBOC’s), officials of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MOFED), the media and other members from the public.

Responding to NSRPA, Director of Budget in MOFED, Mathew Dingie expressed satisfaction over what he described as a brilliant presentation and promised that MOFED will try by all possible means to give them timely budget allocation. He described the duty of NSRPA as tedious and he therefore demonstrated hope that they will use any budget allocation for it intended purpose.
