As Surveillance Cameras Replace Police Check Points No More Booking Fees

The Public Relations Officer, Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), Sorie Ibrahim has informed the media that the idea of paying booking fees by drivers will now become a thing of the past as surveillance cameras will replace all Police checkpoints along the provincial highways.  (Photo: SLRA PRO, Ibrahim Sorie Kanu)

Kanu made the statement at a press conference organized by Heal Sierra Leone on the Toll Road saga at 50 Edwards Street in Freetown last Wednesday.

According to the PRO, it is only in Sierra Leone one can see Police maintain check points to check passengers when there is no war or any other emergency reason.

He disclosed that when the Toll Road payment commences all checkpoints will be removed adding that Police will be patrolling along the highways for more security consciousness. He claimed that drivers are going to benefit more on the Toll Road initiative than the Government because they don’t have to bribe any Police or paying book fees except the Toll Road charges which is more reasonable than Police exploitation.

He encouraged Sierra Leoneans to embrace the new phenomenon and watch what the country and its citizens stand to benefit out of the initiative and assured the public that the alternative route which he said is on course will be accessible for any vehicle which may not want to pass through the Toll Road.
