For Service Delivery Momodu Maligie, Samuel Bangura Tops

An assessment carried out by this medium on Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA’s) nationwide revealed that the Ministry of Water Resources and the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) are the best in terms of service delivery. This assessment was carried out in a bid to ascertain whether MDA’s are really doing the jobs they are mandated to do for the people of this country during the tenure of His Excellency the president Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma’s nine (9) years in office. This exercise was done independently and targeted key service delivery issues including Safe Drinking Water, Electricity supply, Health Service Delivery, Education, Economy, Food Sufficiency among others.

It is the report of this exercise that ranked the head of Water Ministry, Momodu Maligie and SALWACO’s Samuel Bangura as the best in terms of performing their mandate for the people of this country. ‘’These two have really been effective more than any other Ministry or Agency in the country, our report state.

It could be recalled that after the 2012 elections, His Excellency the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma decided to separate the Water sector from the then Ministry of Energy and Water Resources by creating an exclusive Ministry responsible for water. He did so and appointed a very young and dynamic youth in the person of Hon. Momodu Maligie as minister of that ministry. His Excellency also went further in appointing Samuel Bangura as head for the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO).

Since their appointments, minister Maligie and Director Bangura have been working tirelessly as a team in addressing the burning water crises that was facing the country. They have ensured that Pipe Borne Water reaches major towns and cities around the provinces including Bo, Makeni, Kenema, Blama, Kailahun to name but a few.

Even though the capital Freetown is not part of their mandate, they also intervened in helping the Guma Valley Water Company address the acute water shortage that was facing the city. It could be recalled that the minister of Water Resources promised the people of the city last year that water will be available for everyone in the city. He fulfilled this promise by ensuring that Milla Tanks are available to every corner of Freetown with SALWACO filling every one of those tanks with water.

I can therefore state with authority that the last dry season, water was available in abundance in the city as compared to the previous dry seasons during which people have their monies to buy water but cannot get it. The team work of these two young men have proven so fruitful that many citizens are therefore calling on the President of this country and subsequent presidents to give more power to youths in order to have a better service delivery.  They are also calling on His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma to bring the Guma Valley Water Company under the purview of the Water Resources Ministry in order to avoid the problem of water in the city.
