Gento Misuses Local Content Policy
Over and again, we have been crying for the Local Content Policy to be implemented in other to give way to our nationals to benefit from contract, jobs and otherwise within the country.
It was against this backdrop that His Excellency the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma through the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) decided to award the contract for the construction of the Hill Court -Regent Road to Gento Group some years ago. But to the disappointment of many citizens and non-citizens especially those living around the Hill Court, Wilberforce, Hill Station and other surrounding communities; the road construction is not showing any sign of progress. The slow progress of the road has left many people raising concern as to whether Gento is really capable of constructing these roads especially the one from Kingharman Road to Hill Cut Junction. Of all these years of construction, that specific area of the road is not showing any positive sign that it may be completed anytime soon.
People are now beginning to raise serious concern over their safety in using that route because of the condition appalling condition of the road especially in this raining season. Drivers who ply that route are also complaining bitterly that their vehicles are getting spoiled by the day because of the road’s condition.
Some are alleging that Gento Group did not have the required machinery to construct that road. Others are alleging that he bites more than he can chew by grabbing road contracts here and there with no one being completed. How special is Mr. Gento that he keeps getting road contracts when he has not demonstrated his ability of constructing these roads by just merely completing one. This is actually a shame and misuse of the local content policy we all have been crying for. We are therefore calling on Mr. Mohamed Gento Kamara to buckle up and do the right thing for Sierra Leoneans.
