No Electricity at PPRC Office
The new Chairman of the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC), Justice Patrick Hamilton, has admitted that he has never seen electricity in the PPRC office since he took up office weeks ago.
He made the confession on the AYV television while talking during the National Dialogue program.
He said that he uses “hand generator” to carry out office work as the office has been in a permanent state of blackout, a situation which he mainly attributed to the financial constraints through which the office is going.
The PPRC Chairman made it categorically clear that the commission, for now, has no money and that he has been constantly reminding the Finance Ministry about the commission’s financial plight and that it was only recently he got a response from the Finance Minister. Hopefully, he went on, the commission will receive funding by early next month.
Speaking on the question of whether the commission is prepared for the election, the PPRC Chair stated that despite the financial difficulties, the commission is ready to referee the elections as long as the players are ready.
He expressed confidence that the electoral players are ready as evident in the fact that the commission is still receiving applications for registration of new parties.
