Sierra Leone Business Summit & Awards 2016

to present key trade and investment opportunities

The African Council of Chief Executives, Inc., Ecomedia Corporation, Sierra Leone Council of Chief Executives, and the Africa Media Corporation, in conjunction with key stakeholders across Sierra Leone and overseas will hold an international business summit in 2016 to facilitate discussion on Sierra Leone’s dynamic business sectors and promote business matchmaking between Sierra Leonean and international businesses. The Sierra Leone Business Summit & Awards 2016 will be held in October, 2016, in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

The Sierra Leone Business Summit 2016 will provide an opportunity for foreign investors to operate in Sierra Leone and encourage Sierra Leonean and foreign investors to forge partnerships to explore trade and investment opportunities across all business sectors. In addition to plenary sessions, which will look at the Sierra Leonean market in general, the Summit will be divided into ten topic areas: trade & investment, information technology (ICT), construction & engineering, energy & power, banking & finance, agribusiness, petroleum (oil & gas), travel & tourism, telecommunications, and transportation.

According to Peter SaSellu president and group CEO of the African CEO Council and executive head of the Sierra Leone CEO Council, “The purpose of the Summit is to bring together key corporate leaders and policymakers to create shared opportunities and strengthen Sierra Leone and foreign business relations with a focus on national business and investments opportunities, and socioeconomic development across the country.”

The Sierra Leone Business Summit is a cooperative effort between the Sierra Leone CEO Council, the African CEO Council, Ecomedia Corporation and other important business partners and stakeholders across Sierra Leone and overseas. However, over 500 delegates are anticipated from across Sierra Leone and abroad, including foreign investors and trade partners, senior government officials and heads of public organisations and agencies, ambassadors, top business executives, policymakers, and entrepreneurs of leading businesses across the country and beyond.

The overall objective of the Summit is to initiate mutual public-private partnerships, to promote and showcase economic growth, integration, and free trade between Sierra Leone and other countries. This one-day interactive business summit will provide comprehensive information on the latest trade and investment opportunities across Sierra Leone’s most promising sectors and emerging industries.

Participants will have the opportunity to network and interact with key government officials, top Sierra Leonean and foreign business leaders, identify specific growth areas and hear detailed information about projects that are ripe for investment or partnership. Also, participants will discover the latest financing options, meet potential business partners, as well as trade and investment promotion representatives, foreign diplomats and representatives of international organizations and trade & professional associations, and learn about trade and investment incentives available from individuals and key businesses across the country.

Moreover, a Business Information Expo that will provide participants the opportunity to speak with representatives of organisations and businesses that offer specific services to Sierra Leonean and international businesses will also be held. However, representatives from trade and investment promotion agencies and chambers of commerce from across the country will be present at the Summit to provide practical information on potential business sectors and emerging opportunities and industries. Additional offerings include business matchmaking sessions based on areas of interest and a special kiosk to coordinate one-on-one meetings between participants. Lunches and dinners will also afford moments to interact with business counterparts in a relaxed atmosphere.

Among other important things, however, the Sierra Leone Business Summit will showcase the country’s potential and Sierra Leone’s business capacity. Sierra Leone may have been an unknown entity to most global businesses but is rapidly becoming the investment destination of Africa. Many global small-to-medium businesses do not feel they have the wherewithal to do business in Sierra Leone. They are not aware of the opportunities available for them. Thus, this Summit can accomplish the critical task of informing them how to operate in Sierra Leone and the financial opportunities the country provides.

“We intend to create a platform for interaction of business people across Sierra Leone and overseas,” says Elizabeth Paulson ACCE Group Senior Programs Officer and Head of the 2016 Summit Coordinating Team, in Freetown. “To achieve this objective, we will focus on those industries that have the potential to be the foundation of sustainable economic growth in this century. In this regard, the Summit will serve as an implicit expression of a new vision for Sierra Leone, promulgated by a new generation of Sierra Leoneans and friends of Sierra Leone.”

Sierra Leone Business Summit 2016 will serve as the catalyst that brings key policymakers, leading Sierra Leonean chief executives and entrepreneurs together with counterparts from across the country and around the world.
