A Promise Kept

A Promise Kept

Many have asked me why I choose to do what I do, why a Bible Bishop, why Africa, why Sierra Leone…

I did not choose this path, I was chosen. A Chosen Child of Destiny – A Chosen Son of Dentiny. My destiny was inevitable – fate if you will. I am to do what God has chosen me to do.

I have had many blessings in my life and one of these was to be adopted (chosen) by my mother, Bertha M. Brown, fondly known in Africa as Nana Akosua Fosua Aduanwoma. On an early trip to Ghana together in 1996, she made me promise to  “Not forget the children.” This has been a promise I must keep. It is a driving force within me.

Children of AfricaI know she is proud and rejoicing about our plans for Sierra Leone’s children and selfishly wish she would be able to witness this with me. In September 2001, Bertha M. Brown – Nana Akosua Fosua Aduanwoma died while I was on a five country tour in Africa. They were not able to reach me until the day of her funeral while entering Ghana. By the time I got home to Illinois, she had been dead for 10 days. At her gravesite all I could do was cry, so I took off my International Gold Bishop Cross that I was wearing and stuck in deep in the soil of her grave. She taught me many things but most importantly about unconditional love.

God continues teaching me to love. I am only one man that God has chosen to show love to many for which I am thankful.

The signing of the MOU with the government of Sierra Leone is in many ways closure for me. I am keeping my promise to my mother to “Not forget the children.” It is also just the beginning…because I have been chosen.

The Kamlock organization was founded by Alhaji P.M. Kamara and Bishop Wiliiam L. Lockhart in 2003. The two men, from different countries, different religions, different career paths…had one common vision – to use their gifts to help the people of Sierra Leone.

Mr. Kamara is from Rokupr Wosie in the Bureh/Macontech Kasseh Chiefdom, Port Loko District, Northern Province of the Republic of Sierra Leone. Mr. Kamara is retired after serving thirty-five years in the Sierra Leone Civil Service, most recently as the Senior Accountant for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. He is known for his leadership, gentle spirit and generosity to those in need.

Bishop Lockhart, is an American dedicated to helping the African people.  He is an International Bishop, Doctor of Philosophy in Mission Studies and Honorary Paramount Chief Ngevavo Gborgbo II (Mandu, Dea and Malema Chiefdoms). He is Chief for Development, Nan Yeboah Asiamah I in Ghana and International Bishop – Mission for the Evangelization and Deliverence of Soul in Cote d’Ivorie.  Bishop Lockhart served as Ambassador to the World Conferences of Mayors and is a Master Farmer. Bishop Lockhart has traveled to West Africa 28 times since 1995.

OUR VISION: To improve socio-economic conditions throughout the 12 Districts of Sierra Leone through the use of responsible agriculture and mining techniques.

OUR MISSION: Enable, through close cooperation with the Paramount Chiefs and Government of Sierra Leone, food self sufficiency and improved job opportunities fueled by sustainable development of national resources.

Established in 2003, Kamlock has quietly been developing strategies and aligning resources to support our AGRICULTURAL EXPANSION AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY for the Republic of Sierra Leone. Our strategy was born from a balance of both thoughtful processes and intuitive feelings formed around public and private concerns based on signficant review of foreign and domestic interactions and with tribal and national considerations at the forefront. It is based on our team’s strategies and tactical review of Sierra Leone’s resources. We are confident in our approach because it is based upon our team’s personal knowledge from living in Sierra Leone as well as a careful and comprehensive analysis of Sierra Leone’s present economic and social conditions as well as the concerns of the national and tribal governments. Our strategy aligns with President Barack Obama’s inagural pledge to Africa to “work alongside you to make your farms flourish and let clean waters flow”.

Our initial project, the USA International Farm Initiative, is well underway with our teams deploying to Lungi, in 2010. The Lungi Project will allow Kamlock to showcase many of the aspects of the overall initiative that will be replicated throughout 149 Chiefdoms and 12 Districts, plus Freetown and Waterloo.

Our strategy has been strongly supported by leaders from Sierra Leone and the United States. Supporters include: The Congressional Black Caucus (USA) since 2003; all Sierra Leone Line Ministries; the Sierra Leone ALL PEOPLE’S CONGRESS; Armed Forces – Sierra Leone; Embassy of Sierra Leone; National Association of Farmers of Sierra Leone; Alluvial Diamond Miners Association; Sierra Leone Council of Paramount Chiefs; and others.
