The obscene event took place at Total filling station in Kambia town, a popular meeting point. Over thirty journalists visited Kambia last week in the company of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) president, Kelvin Lewis, to attend a function.

Speaking about the assault, Gibril Gottor said, “I was shocked when Passor Konteh, an employee of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs showed up at about 8:30 p.m. on the fateful day drizzling insult on my personality.”

He further explained; ‘’My colleague journalists were shocked as well especially at the way the atmosphere became frenzied.”

“Still contemplating on the shock while I stood with one Abu Bakarr Jalloh, Production Manager Radio Kolenten, Passor Konteh, arrived and rained insult on my mother and called me derogatory names,’’ he claimed.

“As if it was not enough,” he said, ‘’he hit my head in the full view of colleague journalists.’’ This lasted for about 20 minutes.

According to Gottor, ‘’another young man by the name of Junior Kanu, a National Revenue Authority official attached to the Preventive Services and Special Duty (PSSD) materialized with bundles of foul and crude language against his person.

Report further indicates that the insult and embarrassment did last for a period soiling down the wholesome morals of the ace investigative Reporter.

The multiple attacks on the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) Kambia based Reporter came shortly after he foiled a chain of smuggling syndicate in which Customs officers were implicated.

Events of recent days witnessed a barrage of happenings and reports handy about alleged role of labourers and general customs workers contributing in helping unsuspecting individuals to evade tax at the Gbalamuya Customs post, which is said to be the undermining factor to the country’s third largest revenue mobilization spot.

It could be recalled that Gibril Gottor has claimed in recent times of receiving death threats from unsuspecting persons in the northern border town where many hold a view of the critical manner of his reporting especially on issues dealing with corruption, embezzlement and societal vices.
