9 for APC symbol in Constituency 050
The Northern Region executive of the governing All Peoples Congress (APC) last Friday met with stakeholders and aspirants who have declared their intention to contest the Parliamentary Bye-election in Constituency 050 in the Marampa Chiefdom, Port Loko District.
Constituency 050 was declared vacant following President Dr. Ernst Bai Koroma’s nomination of Hon. Isata Kabia as Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation late December last year. Her nomination by the President was approved by Parliament.
The purpose of the meeting, according to reliable party sources, was in respect of the process of awarding the party symbol for the parliamentary bye-election on a date to be announced by the National Electoral Commission (NEC).
The APC Northern Region Secretary General, Akmed Femi Mansaray, disclosed that nine aspirants have declared for the party symbol to contest the bye-election in Constituency 50.
The aspirants vying for the party symbol, he said, include Patrick Bai Bai Kabia, David Kabia, Osman Karanka Conteh, Abdul Karim Koroma, Madam Zainab Sherriff Bangura, Elizabeth Mans, APC National Women’s Leader, Ibrahim Tapa Sankoh and A.O. Daramy respectively.
The Northern Region Chairman, Hon. Alhaji Buya Kamara, emphasized that all the aspirants are paid up party members that have expressed interest to serve their constituency and the Government, noting that they all come from various walks of life and have contributed in their own little ways to bringing the party to what it is now.
A vox pop conducted by this medium in the Marampa Chiefdom especially in the headquarters Lunsar indicated that the APC National Women’s Leader, Madam Elizabeth Mans, stands a better chance of grabbing the party symbol.
Meanwhile, Sierra Express Media has learnt that the former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr. Franklyn Bai Kargbo, who is one of the most reliable stalwarts in the APC Party, is part of the process for the awarding of party symbol to one of the nine aspirants vying for it to contest the parliamentary bye-election in Constituency 050.
