Statistics Sierra Leone: how was the census?

Census in any nation is conducted to know the total number of people within the state.

For Sierra Leone, it was done from the 5th to the 18th December, 2015 after ten years.

Census in most countries is done to determine a new chart for the development of the state. The accuracy of the census begins from the recruitments of personnel, field officers, supervisors and enumerators who must be conversant with the terrain or environment where they operate.

In my person to person contact a good number of people have said that they were not registered.

For instance, in Gloucester village, some inhabitants of certain homes were not counted due to the wrong posting of personnel.

I saw a lady who was recruited in Freetown, a born native of Kono with little or no knowledge about the environment where she was posted.

The terms of reference for census is to find out both at night and the day time so that there can be a correct figure of people in the country.

What can be a more powerful tool of socio economic and moral transformation in a nation than a strong national dream?

Statistics Sierra Leone did take this angle into consideration. They have still not stated the total number of people in the country which will be a guide to the Government and our donor partners for future development.

It can also help the National Electoral Commission for the delimitation of constituencies and wards.
