‘I am leaving but not gone from the ACC’ new Attorney General asserts

The newly appointed Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Hon. Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara on Tuesday, 5th January, subscribed to the Oath of Office of Minister at a short ceremony before President Ernest Bai Koroma at State House in Freetown.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Kamara was Commissioner of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) and has helped to heighten the country’s profile in the fight against corruption.

Congratulating the appointee, President Koroma said that Mr. Kamara is familiar with his new appointment because of his long standing experience as a legal practitioner.

He reminded him that a lot is expected of him, adding that 0with his performance at the ACC he was optimistic that he will live up to the expectations of Sierra Leoneans.

Responding, Hon. Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara thanked President Ernest Bai Koroma for the appointment and the confidence that he has reposed in him

He made a firm commitment to live up to the expectations of Sierra Leoneans in discharging his duties as Attorney General and Minister of Justice and assured the President that he will dispense justice to all.

In a separate engagement later in the day at the Cathedral Building at Gloucester Street in Freetown where a valedictory ceremony was held to bid him farewell by the Board, Management and Staff of the ACC, the Deputy Commissioner of the ACC, Mr. Sholay Davies, described Mr. Kamara as a mentor and a great teacher from whom they have learned so much. “You have been such an inspiration to all of us, Big Brother, and we are going to miss you a lot,” he noted.

Responding, Mr. Kamara said that although he was leaving the ACC he was not going away from the ACC as he will always remain committed to the fight against corruption.

He promised to work with the ACC in the furtherance of the fight against corruption. He observed that he believed that his new position will greatly enhance the work of the ACC as he will give them all the support they needed for them to succeed in their work.

He thanked the Board, Management and Staff of the ACC, the Fourth Estate, and all Sierra Leoneans for the massive support he received from them during his tenure.
