Sierra Leone’s Dumbuya wins player of the month award

Sierra Leone international Mustapha Dumbuya has won the McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month for September.

The 28-year-old has made a remarkable impact since his arrival in the Scottish top flight for Thistle as a free agent, scoring his first goal against Dundee on 3, October 2015.

Mustapha, who was part of the Sierra Leone side during the international break for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Chad, scooped the award with more than 50% of the vote.

He said, “It’s incredibly humbling for me to win this award, especially as this was the first month I was a Partick Thistle player. I think I have started well with the club and getting this award is a real surprise to me as I felt there were other players who were more deserving.

“It’s been a tough week for me with Sierra Leone being knocked out of the World Cup, so it is great to pick up this award ahead of a tough game against St Johnstone. We know that, as a team, we need to keep improving and climbing the league. If we can do that, and I can pick up a few more of these trophies along the way, then that would suit me just fine,” Dumbuya told club website.
