IFAD boosts GOLA Agriculture Radio Station

As part of the main streaming efforts of the media in promoting agricultural productivity across the country, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security, through the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has donated solar energy panels, Lap Top Computer, information technology accessories and other studio equipment to the tune of twenty thousand Dollars ($20,000) to the Gola Agriculture Radio FM103.3 at Maxell Kobie Street in Kenema, our report states.

Presenting the items, Ahmed Tejan Keller, the Project Coordinator noted that his organization is renowned for maintaining a healthy and productive relationship with local farmers in the country.

He disclosed that their project’s aim was to provide and complement the local farming population and to ensure that agricultural productivity is taken seriously nationwide.

He noted that the Gola Agricultural Radio Station, in their report, has been providing useful information to residents in Kenema, Kailahun and Pujehun Districts adding that the solar energy will help sustain and expand its transmission capacity in their communities.

Furthermore, he told the people that IFAD was established to help eradicate hunger and poverty in many parts of Africa especially in Sierra Leone and that their aims would be achieved with the fullest support of media houses in the country.

He furthered that journalist are key players of the functions of IFAD Project and  that the required support of media houses would be provided to augment their operational capacity coupled with effective participation on information dissemination with reference to the communities’ agricultural activities and programmes.

Receiving the items, the Station Manager, Mr. Mohamed Saidu Jannah, thank officials of IFAD for their kind gesture, noting that their support will go a long way in improving the general operations of the station.

He assured the gathering that the facilities provided by IFAD and the government of Sierra Leone will be judiciously utilized for their intended purposes, noting, their radio station has been longing for such gestures to combat the challenges especially in the area of power supply during the dry season.

George urged officials of the Gola agricultural radio station to make good use of the items adding that his institution will continue to give out relevant information that will promote the essence of agriculture in support of IFAD in that part of the country.
