Dreaming the Grounded Guild – Belated Handing Over Ceremony

Last night I had a nice dream; the current President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), Kelvin Lewis, formally handed over office with all relevant documents to the current chairman of the Interim Committee of the Guild of Editors, Theo Harding.

While handing over during a grand ceremony at the SLAJ Head Office in Freetown, the former Chairman of the Guild, Kelvin, who relinquished the office      about three years ago, stressed that he deliberately refused to hand over the office for three good years just because his then Vice-Chairman now interim Chairman, Theo Harding, disappointed him by refusing to support him when he vied for the SLAJ Presidency, instead, Theo had the guts to pitch tent with his arch-rival, Madam James, an act which he described as gross insubordination. He wholeheartedly apologized for holding the Guild to ransom all these years but it was a necessary action to teach Theo the lesson that one must always support his boss in any election.

In his statement, a fully registered member of the guild who doubles as the Editor of the APC YONE Newspaper, Cornelius Deveaux, dressed in expensive chiefly AGBADA, said he was quite aware of the fact the Kelvin was all these years reluctant to hand over because Theo never him for the fertile SLAJ presidency. He called on Theo to go down his knees and beg Kelvin for such a blatant manifestation of insubordination and treachery.

Cornelius was blunt to state that he was personally not in favor of the idea of handing over the Guild to a non-elected and, obviously, illegitimate interim committee but that they were being compelled to do so to allow the interim committee to assemble the scattered Guild and effectively lead the organization to the Annual General Meeting scheduled for December this year.

Theo Harding then asked the former Chairman about the whereabouts of an alleged 100.000 US Dollars donated to Guild by the UNDP for the construction of office, but Kelvin never responded. Theo told the galaxy of Editors that he was just demonstrating his democratic right by supporting James. He however apologized for any embarrassment that may have caused his former boss.

Many others who spoke condemned Kelvin for not being politically tolerant and behaving in a petty and undemocratic manner. While Kelvin was handing over all the necessary documents to Theo at the climax of the ceremony, I woke up and realized that it was all a dream.
