Stern Warning for Secret Society Leaders

Chief Executive Officer of the National Ebola Response Centre (NERC), Retired Major Paolo Conteh (in photo), has sent a strict warning to all secret society leaders in the country to be conscious that Ebola virus remains a threat in the country notwithstanding the easing of the public health emergency.

Rtd. Paolo Conteh gave the stern warning during a recent press conference at the Military Headquarter in Freetown.

The NERC boss further disclosed that investigations carried out recently around the country revealed that secret and illegal burial of dead bodies were being carried out in many areas and that people doing so are sabotaging efforts made by the government of Sierra Leone and its partners in bringing the scourge to a final end.

He said that activities of secret societies in the country will continue to act as a threat and that any person/persons caught engaging in such activities will be answerable to laws governing the fight against the scourge.

The NERC Chief reiterated that Ebola is not yet over in Sierra Leone and people are expected to live within cautionary rules till the nation observes forty-two (42) days of non Ebola cases that will encourage President Koroma, via the advice of WHO, to announce an official end of the scourge.

He concluded by expressing thanks to all those involved in the response for the way they have responded to the demands of Operation Northern Push and he encouraged them to keep up the good work as we get to zero plus 42.
