Justice Minister Vows to Strengthen Judiciary

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice in the Republic of Sierra Leone, Franklyn Bai Kargbo, has vowed to strengthen the justice sector

The Minister made the commitment yesterday in the conference room of the Ministry of Information and Communications at Youyi Building in Freetown during the weekly press conference.

“Government has identified priorities that will speed up and make more people access justice,” the Minster stressed and he continued that they now have a Legal Aid Board to ensure that justice is more affordable.

According to the minister, government has accepted the fact that the justice sector is grossly underfunded and the new Criminal Procedure Act will fast track cases by allowing accused persons to be tried without any delay.

He deliberated on the shortage of infrastructure in the justice sector, noting that that is why the government is committed to construct more court buildings all over the country and place therein credible Magistrates, Judges and Prosecutors. He mentioned that government is also committed to improve conditions of service in the justice sector.

He maintained that government is finding suitable means to standardized bail terms and conditions.
