Works Ministry launches website

The Permanent Secretary, Donald Augustus Ngegba who chaired the launching ceremony said it is part of the government information flow system for transparency and enhance national development. He said website contains all information about the Ministry.

The Deputy Director of Communications, Mohamed Jalloh pointed out that the role of information and communication technologies in the present era have profound effect on socio-economic, political and cultural development in society. He said they have become indispensable tools in the implementation of the country’s national development plans, supporting its effort to secure the welfare and prosperity of citizens as stated in the Agenda for Prosperity. He expressed government’s commitment towards the use of ICT tools as it is crucial for the effective operations of government and the delivery of services it provides to citizens and businesses as well as pushing development process forward and boosting the efficiency and growth of other sectors on the economy.

The government, he said have initiated several related ICT Policies and regulating instrument that are aimed at guiding the development of the ICT sector and harnessing its huge potential for national development. Mr. Jalloh further said in order to improve on ICT in various government agencies; they have since 2013 been able to post close to 130 ICT Staff of various grades to various Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

He thanked the Works Ministry for the innovative move and reaffirms the Ministry of Information’s continuing effort to promote the use of ICT in MDAs to transform government in its processes, procedures and structures by making it more accessible, effective and accountable.

The Minister of Information and Communication, Alhaji Alpha B.S. Kanu in his keynote address commended the Works Ministry for recognizing the importance and potential of ICT in improving the participation and engagement of citizens in public decision-making; and also the need for appreciating ICT in addressing citizens’ challenges and service delivery.

He noted the National Constitution gives the right to citizens for information as well as engagement and participation in public maters. He added that increasing citizens’ engagement in development process has the potential to make meaningful and positive contribution towards improving governance in Sierra Leone.

Alhaji Kanu re-echoed the fact that ICT needs to be positioned at the center of every development process to realize the country’s potential. He said the formation of a wesite by the Works Ministry will help rebrand the image of the country as it will showcase the current infrastructural development in the country and gives citizens the opportunity to take part in development projects. He assured of government commitment to do all it can to improve on the ICT status in the country.
