Christian Aid applauded for Ebola Support

Hundreds of people quarantined in three chiefdoms in the Bombali District have applauded Christian Aid and their NGO service provider PaRD-SL for the provision of appreciable food supply and cash to Ebola survivors.  (PaRD-SL staff with the food and non food items provided by Christian Aid for Ebola survivors)

The timeliness of the food supply was commendable to majority of the people in the quarantined homes; amongst them are children, youths, adults and the aged who stood behind the red tape to collect their share of the food supply without making any body contact.

The situation is grim for many of the people in the quarantined homes but the swift intervention by the two NGO’s has helped households to cook their favourite meal and also have a cup of Tea for breakfast within the period.

Some Sanitary and Toiletries were also provided to households which makes the supply admirable to the Ebola affected people in Major Towns in Bombali District  like Makeni and remote villages in the area.

The project for the food supply is part of the Emergency Response Support to Ebola affected persons in Bombali Shebora Makarie Gbanti and Mapaki masagbom chiefdoms all in the Bombali District, which are currently being supported by Christian Aid and Partners in Relief Development Sierra Leone (PaRD-SL) one of the respectable Local NGO’s.

One hundred and fifty households (150) were Registered in the quarantined homes  by the Bombali Ebola Response Center at different locations and they all received their food packages with a little bit of smile after going for days without adequate food they told our reporter.

Each household in the quarantined homes received their food supply with appreciation after a brief talk about the dangers of Ebola and the need to adhere to the laws.

Some 120 Ebola survivors also received their food package with Rice 50kg, Sugar, Salt, powder milk magi, sardines, onion, vegetable oil, tomato paste, black eye beans –and the non food items included Dettol, veronica bucket laundry soap, bathing soap, tooth paste and sanitary pads for women.

Ebola survivors were also provided with mattress and bed spread with a cash of Le200, 0000 to each of the survivors to enable them recover their lost income.

The food and non food distribution team comprised of Ezekeh Conteh Programme officer Christian Aid, Director of PaRD-SL Mahmoud B Kargbo and staff, Abdul Karim Kamara Bombali District Nutritionist and host of officers from the Bombali District Ebola Response Command Centre.

Before the distribution, a short talk was done by the Ezekeh Conteh Programme officer Christian Aid who encouraged the people at the various quarantined homes to stay indoors and abide by the Ebola local byelaws.

The Director of PaRD-SL Mahmoud B Kargbo while doing the distribution said the food and non food items were provided by their partner Christian Aid to help people affected by the Ebola disease in the three chiefdoms the project is being implemented.

The Programme Manager of PaRD-SL Madam Kadie Jackson cautioned people in the quarantined homes not to escape from their home which is the reason they are providing appreciable food and non food items to them.

Several beneficiaries expressed profound thanks and appreciation to Christian Aid for the support and appealed for more.
