ACC concludes investigation of missing vehicles on board containers at the Queen Elizabeth II Quay

On 17th December 2014, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning made a referral to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for an investigation into allegations relating to the theft of the contents of four containers slated for auctioning at the Queen Elizabeth II Quay in Freetown.

The ACC has formally concluded the investigation. In the course of that investigation, it was revealed that two of the containers purportedly carrying vehicles were intercepted by officials of the US Customs Border Patrol, and removed their contents on the grounds that the vehicles were stolen from the United States of America.

Following the investigation, the ACC wishes to inform the general public that the containers, loaded and shipped from various ports in New Jersey and New York in the United States of America, arrived empty at the port in Freetown.

The investigation relating to the said two containers do not disclose criminal liability to staff of the National Revenue Authority nor that of the Sierra Leone Ports Authority.

However, the Commission continues with its investigations in respect of the other two containers, and other corruption-related activities associated with the Queen Elizabeth II Quay.
