Sight Savers donate Prado vehicle, Food and Non Food Items to Health Ministry in the fight against Ebola

Freetown, Nov. 14, 014 (MOHS) – Sight Savers has donated Toyota Land Cruiser PRADO vehicle(in photo), medical equipment, detergents and consumables worth over Le57 million to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation to support the National Emergency response towards the fight against Ebola

Handing over the items which include infrared temperature thermometer, masks, and examination gloves, the Country Director, Sight Savers International, Mrs. Nancy Smart, said this is the third support to the National Emergency Response towards the fight against the Ebola disease in the country.

She said they have been supporting the Ministry Ebola surveillance and monitoring system and working in comprehensive eye health care in the south and eastern provinces.

Mrs. Nancy Smart disclosed recent support to the Hastings Ebola Treatment Centre to boost some of the urgent needs of the staff in appreciation of their work.

Receiving the items, the Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation II, Madam Madina Rahman on behalf of the Ministry expressed gratitude and appreciation to Sight Savers for the gesture, describing it as laudable.

She observed that Sight Savers has been supportive to the Ministry, and continue to demonstrate the collaboration in the fight to contain the Ebola virus disease in the country.

The Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Brima Kargbo described Sight Savers as a long standing partner with remarkable contribution to the infrastructural development within the Ministry’s eye care services,, noting the construction of the Kenema Eye Clinic, and the National Eye Care Service activities in the Western Area.

Manager of the National Eye Care Services, Ministry of Health and Sanitation, Dr. Mathew Vandy described the donation as an invaluable treasure in the fight against Ebola, assuring the donor that the items would be used for the intended purpose.
