IRC calls for Salone wish list to combat Ebola

As the fight against Ebola takes center stage in international media circles, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the International Rescue Committee, (IRC) Hon. David Wright Miliband on Thursday 9th October paid a courtesy call on President Ernest Bai Koroma at State House, Freetown.

President Koroma expressed delight that the IRC CEO was in the country on an assessment mission of the situation. Government, the president said, was playing a key role in curbing the further spread of the disease, although the structures were fragile. He recalled that after the war government started all over again saying; “We had just introduced the Free Health Care amid daunting challenges”.

Hon. Miliband requested from President Koroma a wish list for resource mobilization against Ebola, and praised him for what he described as his astute leadership particularly in the ongoing battle against the dreadful Ebola virus disease (EVD). “Mr. President, your leadership at this time has shaken the whole environment.” He noted that his organization has been working in Sierra Leone for over fifteen years and has 200 staff working in closed partnership with the team that wants to do a lot for Sierra Leone.

Meanwhile, as part of its emergency response in the ongoing battle against EVD, the IRC is partnering with health officials in Sierra Leone to stem the outbreak, while at the same time training rural health care providers in lifesaving techniques for treating newborns and their mothers.
