Leone Stars delegation arrive in DR Congo

Leone Stars players have flown into Kinshasa from Abidjan to honour their home 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against DR Congo in Lubumbashi on Wednesday.

It came two days after they gave away a 1-0 lead to narrowly lose 2-1 away to Les Elephants in their opening group D fixture played at the Felix Houphouet Boigny stadium in Abidjan.

The team arrived at the N’djili international airport in Kinshasa at around 2:30am local time on Monday and were due to leave for Lubumbashi on board a flight at 15:00 local time (16:00GMT) the same day.

16 players and Coach Jonathan Mckinstry transited at the Casablanca airport where they were joined by five officials including the minister of Sports Paul Kamara and two journalists from the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL) Mohamed Fajah Barrie and Abu Bakarr Kanu to fly out to DR Congo.

The players spent about 12 hours at the Mohammed V airport and looked determined to give out their best against DR Congo.

Striker Kei Kamara, Mustapha Dumbuya and Michael Lahoud used different route as they flew from Abidjan to Lubumbashi via Johannesburg.

Meanwhile, the Vice President 1 of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Brima ‘Mazola’ Kamara didn’t make the trip from Casablanca airport to DR Congo as he was nowhere to be found at the time of boarding the flight.

The former Sierra Leonean international was among three front runners that departed Freetown on Saturday morning.

The other two were SLFA head of competitions Sorie Ibrahim Sesay and Assistant Director of Sports Mohamed Kabba, former Secretary General of the SLFA.

According to Sesay, they parted company with Kamara immediately they arrived at the airport.

He said Kamara told them that he was going to town because he has an American passport which doesn’t need a visa to enter Morocco while Sesay and Kabba stayed at the airport hotel. He was nowhere to be seen at the time of departure.
